• August 6, 2007 – The Coalition supported its Vision Statement.
  • December 2007 The Village Project received a grant from the Strowd Roses Foundation to work on the coalition effort. The Village Project would like to thank the Strowd Roses Foundation for this generous grant!
  • January 2008 – Coalition staff finalized a brochure for the coalition.
  • January 24, 2008 – The Greater Chapel Hill Association of Realtors joined the coalition.
  • January 28, 2008 – The Coalition completed a Statement on Objectives (html) (pdf) for use by Element Lead Advisory Boards and Orange County Planning staff.
  • May 5, 2008 – The Coalition presented comments to the Board of County Commissioners on the draft Comprehensive Plan.
  • May 6, 2008 – Draft 2 of the Comprehensive Plan released by Planning Board to the public. This draft will be the base draft available for comment at the May 19, 2008 meeting.
  • May 19, 2008 – The Coalition presented comments at the public hearing to the Board of County Commissioners. Read the Coalition comments and the written comments by Coalition members
  • June 27, 2008 – Coalition encourages the public to take a look at the comprehensive plan and provide comments to the planning board and commissioners.
  • July 2, 2008 – Allan Rosen began a discussion on the Comprehensive Plan on the OrangePolitics blog. He provides suggestions on how to submit comments.
  • July-August 2008 – Coalition appeared at several community events to spread word about the Comprehensive Plan Update and August Public Hearing.

  • October 7, 2008 – County Commissioners receive Planning Board’s final recommendations on the Comprehensive Plan Update (see item 7.b. of Commissioners Meeting Agenda for complete Planning Board report).
  • October 14, 2008 – Board of County Commissioners work session to discuss the Planning Board recommendations.
  • November 6, 2008 – At its regularly-scheduled meeting, the County Commissioners received the final set of Proposed Revisions for the Comprehensive Plan. The final set takes into account the commissioners comments and directives resulting from their October 14th Work Session.
  • Coalition Does Not Endorse Proposed Comprehensive Plan – The Orange County Commissioners are expected to vote on the Planning Board’s Comprehensive Plan proposal at their November 18, 2008 meeting. For more a year, the Comprehensive Plan Coalition has tracked the planning process. We’ve concluded a serious effort to solicit public opinion and advice is needed. Without meaningful public participation at this critical juncture, adopting the plan will enshrine a document that was subject to decreasing public input as the planning proceeded.   • November 14, 2008 – Coalition member, Dolly Hunter explains why the Coalition opposes the adoption of the proposed Comprehensive Plan in op-ed articles that appeared in the Herald-Sun and the News of Orange County.
  • November 18, 2008 – The Orange County BOCC approved the comprehensive plan with revisions from the May 8, 2008 draft.
