Hillsborough 2030:
A Walkable Community Concept Plan
West Hillsborough 2030 illustrates how walkable community
principles can be applied to an area of the town with redevelopment
potential. A mix of shops, offices and residences would be clustered
around a transit center served by local and inter-city trains and
buses. Walking would be a safe and pleasant experience, with sidewalks
that are well lit, shaded by trees and have attractive and functional
street furniture.
A variety of public open spaces would be provided,
and a greenway along the Eno river would link West Hillsborough
to downtown Hillsborough and Occoneechee Mountain. A range of housing
options would be available which, together with a reduced dependency
on automobiles, guarantees affordable living for all. Flynt Mill,
formerly a textile factory, would be converted to commercial or
industrial use.
